I have a great appreciation for the teachers Zhongya Laoshi and Xi Laoshi and the Map Chinese Company. During COVID, with another student, with whom I took in person classes in the Confucius Institute in George Mason, we easily transitioned to Zoom classes. It was very well handled by the capable and attentive teachers. It works very well for us, as it is flexible in many ways: we do not have to commute, and still have a great learning experience. For me particularly the structure of reading articles (in both characters and pinyin – that I started learning first), with grammar and audio assistance, works very well. It is also flexible considering our occasional travel. My language partner still works, I am retired, but we both are very busy. This tailor-made teaching helps us prepare in advance and learn according to our own pace. As the Chinese says: “wo de Zhong wen yue lai yue hao.”

My daughter has been taking Chinese class with MAP Chinese school for almost 5 years now. She is 9 this year and can read and enjoy Chinese books ( chapter books) independently! Although she has to get up early three days a week to take Chinese classes with Ms. Liu virtually, she never complains about it and was even mad at me a couple of times because I had to cancel her classes. Ms. Liu truly understands how language learning works and I learned a lot about it just through talking to her. She is always very patient with her student, and she adjusts her content and teaching style based on how the student responds to the materials so that the student remains engaged and interested in learning the language. I strongly recommend Ms. Liu and MAP Chinese school for any kids interested in learning Chinese at all levels.
